American Craftsman Bungalow

The American Craftsman Bungalow became popular for its styles of craftsmanship including different building materials together in the elements of the home. The features of this home styles were prevalent in the Arts and Crafts movement. Other building features include low-pitch roof lines on a gabled or hipped roof, deeply overhanging eaves, exposed rafters or decorative brackets under the eaves, and a front porch beneath an extension of the main roof.

California Bungalow

The California Bungalow was initiated with a concern for the natural aspects of the Californian envirnment. This 1 1/2 story variation on the bungalow style, which was a widely popular home style in America from 1910 to 1925, stressed a return to simple handcrafted workmanship.

Characterized by a rustic exterior and sheltered-feeling interiors, bungalows were most successful in the growing suburbs of Southern California. Covered with clapboards or shingles often stained rather than painted, Bungalows have broad spreading eaves supported by multiple gables with projecting beams. Windows may be small-paned or are often divided into a large lower pane and small upper panes. Also characteristic of this style are spacious front porches supported by squat posts atop chunky river boulder and brick piers.

Chicago Bungalow

The Chicago Bungalow house style is a popular style of bungalow house plan which originated in Chicago in the early 1900s just when the Garlinghouse Company began to sell mail order stock house plans. The Chicago style bungalow has a slightly different look than other styles of bungalows. One of the distinct features of the Chicago bungalow is that the roof gables are aligned parallel to the streets. Most other bungalow styles have forward facing gables. Most Chicago homes built in the early 1900s were built on narrow street lots, so the Chicago bungalow is usually a narrow lot home as well being only about 20 feet wide.

Ranch bungalow

A Ranch Bungalow is a one story home with typical bungalow design features and a separated floor plan. In this configuration, the bedrooms occupy one side of the home while the common areas of the home such as the living room, kitchen, and dining rooms are situated on the opposite side of the home. Attached garages are located on the side as the common areas. Narrow lot ranch styled bungalow floor plans are organized so the common living areas are towards the street. These homes are generally smaller and have a maximum of two bedrooms.

Other styles of homes include the raised bungalow homes, chalet bungalow houses, the "ultimate bungalow", and Milwaukee bungalow home styles.
